PLANTLANTA STATE UNIVERSITY

Mission

Plantlanta State University empowers young leaders in metro Atlanta’s Title I schools to advance environmental equity, sustainability, and community wellness. Partnering with Atlanta’s most innovative farmers, organizations, and social entrepreneurs, we replace a school’s curriculum for a day with hands-on STEAM learning experiences. #GrowingBetterLeaders

Goals

Plantlanta State University (PSU) equips students with the tools to embrace sustainable living, environmental stewardship, and community leadership. By replacing traditional school curricula with hands-on STEAM learning experiences, PSU inspires students to:

  1. Grow their own food and care for the environment.

  2. Lead their peers and families toward healthier, greener futures.

  3. Solve real-world challenges through critical thinking and innovation.

  4. Thrive in a global, technologically advanced society.

By equipping the next generation of young leaders with the tools to lead sustainably, we create a ripple effect of positive change that extends far beyond the classroom—into Atlanta homes, neighborhoods, and future generations.

STEAM Curriculum Areas

Our STEAM Curriculum integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics into hands-on, experiential learning activities. These areas are designed to empower youth to address real-world challenges such as food insecurity, waste reduction, and community health, while fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Through interactive workshops and collaborative projects, students explore:

  1. Food Conservation: Understanding sustainable food systems and reducing food waste.

  2. Culinary Arts: Learning healthy cooking techniques and nutrition.

  3. Health & Wellness: Promoting mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

  4. Urban Farming & Community Gardening: Connecting students with local food systems and agriculture.

  5. Recycle/Reuse/Reduce: Developing practical solutions for waste reduction and environmental stewardship.

  6. Sustainable Art & Music: Using creativity to explore sustainability and cultural expression.

  7. STEM: Integrating science, technology, engineering, and math to foster innovation and problem-solving for real-world challenges.

By engaging students in these STEAM curriculum areas, Plantlanta equips the next generation with the knowledge and skills to lead their communities toward a healthier, greener, and more equitable future.
